Obituary of Elizabeth J. Warnock
Elizabeth (Betty) J. Warnock (nee McLaughlin) died November 26 at 89 years of age. She was born and raised in Yonkers N.Y, on June 9, 1931. She was the daughter of James and Eunice McLaughlin and sister of Anne (predeceased). She attended Yonkers Public Schools graduating from Gorton H.S. in 1950. She enjoyed her time in High School so much that in later years she looked forward to landmark reunions with those she went to Gorton with, maintaining lifelong friendships.
She married Thomas P. Warnock on September 16, 1950. Together they raised 4 children, Timothy Warnock (predeceased), Mary Anne Warnock Powers, Michael Warnock (predeceased), and Kathleen Warnock Egan. Betty was a stay at home Mom and a well known familiar face to all those in the neighborhood.
Betty returned to work after her children were raised and her husband Thomas passed away in 1976. She moved up the line to Peekskill N.Y., where she was a resident for the remainder of her life. She rejoined the workforce at Chase Manhattan Bank as a teller, and moved onto The Westchester Department of Social Services in Peekskill, as a caseworker. Betty remained in that position until her retirement.
In retirement, she enjoyed a fulfilling life with friends and family. Betty returned to painting with a passion and talent that was left neglected while raising her children and working. Many of her pieces are left to decorate the walls of those she's left behind. Betty enjoyed traveling, dining out, going poolside, and visiting the beaches of Wellfleet and Truro where she vacationed every summer with her daughters and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with many friends, especially Barbara Egan, her son in law Dave's mother. Their favorite trip together was to Ireland. Betty lived a full and enriched life surrounded by those who loved her.
Betty is survived by her daughters Mary Anne and Kathleen, and her son in law Dave Egan. Known as Grammy to her grandchildren, Matthew Powers Jessica Powers Mason (Chris) Colleen Powers Nelson (Oliver) Gus Egan (Denise), Mick Egan (Sarah), Charlie, Laura, and Brian Egan and great-grandchildren Grady and Clark Powers, Lucy and Ellie Egan, Henry, Abigail, and Caitlin Mason, Liam and Griffin Nelson. Betty will be greatly missed by all those who survive her for she was deeply loved by all.
