Obituary of Michael J. Itak

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael (Mike, Mickey) Itak passed away April 17th at the NYS Veteran’s Home of Montrose. Mike was born on January 31, 1931 in upper Manhattan to Michael and Mary Itak. Mike was the oldest of their seven children. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Romano and half brother Peter Itak and predeceased by his other siblings James Itak, Robert Itak, Richard Itak, Joan Link, and Patricia Weber.

Mike was a Korean War Veteran who severed in the Air Force. He spent time in Korea and Greenland as a Currier. Mike worked hard his whole life and owned a successful business until his retirement.  In 1958, Mike married Barbara Argosky, who is predeceased. They raised their family in Jackson Heights, Queens.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Lori Coogan, favorite son-in-law Bill, grandson Billy, his wife Heather Queen Coogan and great grandson Mason Thomas. Predeceased by his grandson Thomas Michael Coogan. Peekskill, NY His son Kevin Itak, wife Deborah Mariano Itak, and granddaughter TinaMarie. Flagler County Florida.  Also his brother in laws Paul Weber, Kenneth Link, many nieces, nephews and close friends as well as Nancy Coogan, Bill Coogan’s sister, who has always been a great source of love, strength and support.

Mike’s joys in life were fishing, the New York Giants, the New York Rangers and of course the New York Mets. Later in his life he developed a love for the UCONN Girls Basketball Team. He also had a great love for Blaze and Bella, our family dogs.

As a grandparent, his life revolved around his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching each and every game his grandsons  played from Soccer, Basketball, Football to Baseball. He was known as a SUPER fan and cherished those days. As Mike grew older he was never without his old or a new Cortlandt National Baseball cap. Rick, a wonderful family friend made sure of it. He wore it proudly each day until he passed.

The family is grateful for the care he always received as a Veteran. We also send out a heartfelt thank you to the NYS Veteran’s Home of Montrose, were Mike resided the past 23 months. He was always treated with the utmost care and respect.

We will remember the way Mike always said I love you more.
