Obituary of Teresina Tessie Taccariello

Teresina ‘Tessie’ (DiTroia) Taccariello was born on February 20,1928 to Benardino and Michelina (Cipollone) DiTroia in the town of Alta Villa Irpina within the province of Avellino, Italy. When Tessie was in her early teens she lost her mother, who succumbed to smallpox.  She was one of ten children. 

At the age of 19 she traveled on the Greek ship Nea Hellas for fourteen days, eventually arriving on Ellis Island in New York City.  She had been called upon to marry Antonio Taccariello, who predeceased her in January 2000.  Tessie and Antonio then sponsored her brother and sister, who immigrated from Italy to the United States as well.  Tessie and Antonio settled in Mohegan Lake, NY where they remained for 35 years. 

Together they had six children; Claudina ‘Dina’ (Ed) Hurray of Putnam Valley, Salvatore Taccariello, Bernard (Jeanne) Taccariello of the Bronx, Michael (Wanda) Taccariello of Haverstraw, Catherine (Kirk) Shocker of Garrison, and Anthony (Marlene) Taccariello of Cortlandt Manor, NY.  Sadly, the couple was predeceased by their sons Salvatore and Michael.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, her 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Her love of family, cooking and singing Italian songs will always live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Columbanus Church, 122 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm.

Interment to follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
