Obituary of Lynda A. Hall
Lynda passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Lynda was born on August 31, 1951, in Astoria, NY, and raised in Bellerose, NY where she attended St. Gregory the Great Grammar School and Bishop Reilly High School. She received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from St. John’s University. She was extremely active in campus activities as a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and was selected to be a member of the prestigious President’s Society. It was at St. John’s where she met Jim. They were married in 1974 and purchased their first home in Bellerose, NY. Lynda taught in the Catholic schools in Queens before taking a hiatus following the birth of her two daughters.
Lynda and Jim relocated to Montrose, NY in 1984, where Lynda was quickly hired by the Hendrick Hudson School District as a kindergarten teacher at Frank G. Lindsey school. Lynda taught at many grade levels at FGL and excelled at mentoring new teachers entering the field. Lynda went back to school to receive an Administrative Master’s Degree from Columbia University. Lynda obtained the position of Assistant Principal at Blue Mountain School. She finished her career in education as the Principal of Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School. From where she retired in 2011. Lynda was respected and admired by her students, faculty, and parents as a fair, compassionate, and tireless professional who always had her student’s best interests at heart.
Lynda continued to give to the community post-retirement, volunteering as an ESL tutor and as an active member of the Hendrick Hudson Lions Club.
Lynda and Jim have been avid travelers and have especially enjoyed their time since retirement as travel did not have to take place during school holidays. Most trips needed to include some beach time, Lynda’s happy place. Annual summer vacations with the entire family were always memorable occasions. Lynda was an avid reader, a novice golfer, and loved long walks with her crazy poodle, Max. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her 6 beautiful grandchildren.
Predeceased by her father John J. Adams and her mother Theresa K. Adams (Boyle), she is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jim, her daughters Meredith Green (Brian), of Carmel, NY, and Megan Dietz (Sean) of Montrose, NY, her 6 beautiful grandchildren Mason Dietz, Mia Dietz, Sienna Dietz, Declan Green, Nora Green, and Maggie Green, her sister, Susan McMahon (Greg) of New Hope, PA, her brother, John Adams, Jr. (Grace) of Davenport, FL, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Ginas of Isle of Palms, SC, and brother-in-law, Richard Hall of Glen Cove, NY. She will be lovingly remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, neighbors, and colleagues in education.
She will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A Celebration of Lynda’s Life will be held on Friday, May 20th, 4:00-8:00, at the Cortlandt Yacht Club 238 Kings Ferry Road Montrose, NY. All are welcome to attend.
