Obituary of Samuel Joseph Piamonte

Samuel J. Piamonte of Peekskill NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 22, 2022.  Born on April 22, 1935, he remained a lifelong Peekskill resident. After attending Peekskill High School, he then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. Sam married the love of his life, his darling Lorraine, on October 6, 1962.

Sam worked for Peekskill Parks and Recreation for over 60 years. He enjoyed being a youth leader for sports programs, and still had bonds with the kids he worked with till this day.  He was a lifetime member of Columbian Hose Company No. 1.  He also worked at the Peekskill River Front as a marina attendant, until he retired at the age of 85.

He was known in the community as “Mr. P” but at home, he was affectionately known as Poppy, Pop, or Poppers. Sam was also a die-hard Mets and Jets fan and held season tickets to each. He would never miss watching a game.  Samuel was a loving family man, who loved when all his family was together. His favorite pastimes included doing his scratch-offs, word puzzles, and reading the Post. He found the most joy in his life from playing and enjoying time with his two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine (Tourville) Piamonte; his parents Antonio and Rose (Mascalino) Piamonte; brothers Jerry (Laura) and Anthony (Carmela) Piamonte; and his brother-in-law Manny Perez.

He is survived by his sister Jennie Perez; his two daughters Sandra and Karen (Richard); his son Samuel (Erica); his loving grandchildren Samantha and Richard (Naomi); and his two beautiful great-grandchildren Carli Annette and Giovano Samuel as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


His loss will be felt by an entire community that loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:00AM at Church of the Assumption, 920 1st Street, Peekskill, NY.

Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
