To the Family of Louis Braida,
I only learned of Louis' death long after--I think in one of the MIT Technology Review magazines. I had been meaning to write to him for years and am sorry I missed my chance. I met Louis when I arrived with the first group of women graduate students to be admitted to live at Ashdown House, the graduate dorm. That was the Fall of 1965 and Louis befriended me and my roommate, Gillie Campbell. A group of us often went to Durgin Park on Saturdays when the kitchen at Ashdown House was closed. And we did a lot of social activities together. But the wonderful kindness that Louis did for me, was in my second year of the Master in City Planning program, when I was in a linear algebra class and was quite clueless. (My last math class had been algebra in high school and I had been a German history and literature major in college.) Thanks to Louis' intelligence, good nature and patience in tutoring me, quite regularly that spring semester, I passed the course and got my degree. I don't think I ever thanked him adequately but now can tell his family. May his memory be a blessing.
Best,
Karen Cohen
