Obituary of Crucifix Possenti

In loving memory of our mother, Crucifix (Gertrude) Possenti, born on January 18, 1933, to Paul and Calagesa Buttaci.

Gertrude passed away on March 22, 2023, at the age of 90.

She was the wife of the late Salvatore Possenti and the loving mother of Geri (Mike) Spina, Joseph (Annie) Possenti, Salvatore (Evie) Possenti, Carol (Marco) Gonzalez, and Paula Possenti-Perez. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; Justin, Ryan, Nick, Matt, Jess, Beth, Allie, Luke, Gabby, Tony, Javier, and 5 great-grandchildren; Sofia, PJ, Ben, Ella, and Brook, her dear nieces; Joanne (Alex) Sansone and Paula (Ed) Marron. She also will be missed at her senior center where she enjoyed many good times with her loyal friends.
 

To know our mother was to know a woman who spoke her mind, loved passionately, and knew no bounds when it came to family and God. She  would never think of herself as strong, but to her family and those who knew her well, they would beg to differ. When she faced challenges in life, she had the courage to move on. Her strength came from her deep faith and from her family. That legacy and that strength still lives on.
 

To family and friends, she was known as Gert. She was the youngest sibling with two other sisters Auntie Sister and Joan and had this fierce independence in life that served her in many ways. She lived many years widowed and found a life that satisfied her. Her independence kept her in her own home and driving until the age of 89. We will all remember her vibrant smile as we celebrated her 90th birthday in the nursing home. We will all remember the stories we retold, the discoveries of her youth once again, and the love that bound us together.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 10:15 am at Church of the Holy Spirit, 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.

Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 1055 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
