Obituary of Christopher G. Awerdick
Christopher G. Awerdick, age 70, of Mohegan Lake, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on February 1, 2024.
He was born on January 22, 1954, in Pocantico Hills, NY, where he spent his formative years surrounded by the beauty of his hometown.
He later moved with his wife to raise their family in Ossining, NY.
With extremely tender hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend. Christopher leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of
knowing him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Denise Awerdick, his loving children Lauren Awerdick-Green, Melissa Awerdick, Hayley Awerdick, and his cherished grandchildren Christopher Washington, Olivia Sweat, Stella Sweat, and sons-in-law Garvey Green, Jason Washington, & Robert Sweat.
Christopher was an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather, whose unwavering love and support enriched the lives of his family. His guidance, wisdom, and boundless affection were the foundation upon which his family thrived.
Beyond his roles within the family, Christopher was an electrician and journeyman with a career spanning over 50 years. Christopher's dedication and expertise were invaluable to those he served, and the places he worked (Pace University & New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital).
Christopher's passion for mentoring and coaching extended beyond his professional life. He was an integral part of Ossining’s athletic community. For over 25 years, he dedicated himself to coaching basketball, positively impacting the lives of countless young athletes and instilling in them the values of teamwork, dedication, and
sportsmanship. Teaching core values and lessons that were valuable both on and off the court.
In his leisure time, Christopher found solace in music, fishing, and sports, particularly tennis, in his younger years. He had a profound appreciation for nature and photography, capturing its raw beauty and preserving precious family moments through his lens.
Christopher had a remarkable gift for words, often bringing joy and laughter to those around him with his witty humor and words of wisdom. His mischievous nature brought adventure and wonder to life, leaving an indelible mark on the neighborhood crew in Pocantico Hills in his youthful days and on his children as they grew over the years.
A true romantic at heart, Christopher wooed his wife with poetry by Rumi, romantic gestures, and his gentlemanly charm. His attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and care won Denise's heart and served as a testament to his enduring love.
Christopher will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to ripple through the lives of those he touched, carrying his spirit forward for generations to come.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Homegoing/ Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of the Magdalene, 525 Bedford Rd, Pocantico Hills, NY 10591 on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be held following the Memorial Mass at The Boathouse, 46 Westerly Rd, Ossining, NY 10562
