Obituary of Louis Sorrentino
Louis Sorrentino, aged 72, of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and formerly of Yonkers, NY passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Louis was born on November 1, 1951, to Louis and Frances (nee Falcone) Sorrentino in Yonkers, NY.
Louis is a graduate of St. Casimir’s High School in Yonkers, NY and upon graduation, enlisted in the United States Navy at the tail end of the Vietnam War. Posting out of Norfolk, VA, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Independence loading munitions onto the aircraft and performing firefighting operations on the flight deck. As part of his assignment, he traveled to many places in the Mediterranean, including Italy and Greece where he undoubtedly worked hard and partook in shenanigans in equal measure. He was incredibly proud of his service to his country.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Louis worked at the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities for 33 years before retiring in 2006. His most notable position within his years of county service was Plant Supervisor at the Yonkers Wastewater Treatment Facility. Shortly after retiring, Louis realized his inability to sit still and found a position that combined both his gift of gab and love of golf at Hollow Brook Golf Course. At the golf course, he worked as the Director of Outside Operations, starred as Santa for the children each Christmas, and managed photo-ops with every local sports legend to descend upon the club. Louis was very fond of his colleagues at each stage of life and spoke of them often.
Louis leaves behind a heartbroken family including his partner, Deborah Doorley, with whom he shared a life for 24 years, and their two “Freegles” Casey and Cricket who miss all the cookies he would sneak them. Louis’s legacy lives on in his two daughters and five grandchildren: Lisa and Corey Huber of Budd Lake, NJ and their two children Nolan and Kylie; and Jennifer and Anthony Garigliano of Grahamsville, NY, and their three children Burton Louis, Emmett, and Clara. He is survived by sisters Nancy Schrieber, Peggy Gary, Lori Sorrentino, and Penny (Doug) Fialkoff, brother Russell (Kelly) Sorrentino, sister-in-law DeeDee Sorrentino, as well as nine nieces and nephews. Louis is predeceased by his parents, brother Tommy Sorrentino, and nephew Ron Sorrentino.
While Louis held many different titles throughout his life, Papa was his favorite. He was an incredible partner, father, grandfather, and friend. He was fiercely loved by all who knew him and is already missed beyond measure.
