Obituary of Amelia Giusti
Amelia Giusti of Peekskill, NY passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, at the age of 98, surrounded by her loving daughters.
Amelia was born in the beautiful and picturesque mountain village of Assergi, Italy to Giuseppe and Giuseppina Lalli on April 30, 1926. She married her husband, Marino Giusti, on September 26, 1948, in the village church of Santa Maria Assunta.
They had two devoted daughters, Maria and Fausta. Marino Giusti came to America in 1954 and worked with his brother, Dominick, in the welding business. In December 1955, Amelia, together with her two daughters, immigrated to the United States to join him. They settled in the city of Peekskill, where they lived and raised their family.
Mrs. Giusti was an avid gardener and a celebrated cook. The meals she prepared for her family and friends were memorable. She was a strong, loving woman, who nurtured her family and friends in her simple way of giving. She had a beautiful smile which would light up any room she entered.
Family was her greatest joy in life. She was a devoted “Nonna” to her grandchildren, Christina and Jerry, and passed on her wisdom of gardening, cooking, and fixing just about anything. She often expressed her love in the form of food, which was always appreciated. Most importantly, she passed on traditions and love for all things Italian.
She is survived by her daughters, Maria McSorley, and Fausta Giusti Barbieri, her grandchildren, Christina Sommer (Greg) and Jerry McSorley; her great-grandchildren, Jake, Mia, Emmett, and Carly Sommer, Liam and Brady McSorley, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Marino; her brothers, John, and Frank Lalli; her sister, Antonietta; her brothers and sisters-in-law Dominick and Mary Giusti, Raffaele Giusti, Marcia Lalli and Clementina Lalli; and her son-in-law Jerry McSorley.
She will be deeply missed and remain in our hearts forever.
