Obituary of Donald J. Foster

Donald J. Foster, a lifelong Peekskill resident, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 68. Donald was the Proprietor of Candles By Foster, in Peekskill, where he designed and manufactured custom made candles for any occasion. He was born in Peekskill on April 21, 1947, the son of Margaret DiMilia of Peekskill and Joseph DiPietro of Buchanan. On December 30, 1978 he married Mary Bordash at the Monteverde Inn, in Cortlandt Manor. He was a Board Member of the former Peekskill-Cortlandt Chamber of Commerce where he initiated the Peekskill Beautification Committee and the Peekskill Downtown Business Council. A former Board member and past president of Lapolla Little League, he organized the Peekskill Sports Commission which successfully developed the Louisa Street Ballfield (Peekskill Stadium). Donald is survived by his wife, The Honorable Mary Foster, former Peekskill Mayor, his son Scott (Melaine Fuentes) Foster, daughter Kelly Foster, grandson, Luke Foster, his godmother Leila (Casper) Knizeski, all of Peekskill; 3 brothers, William, James, and Steven Foster, 10 nephews and nieces, and 9 great nephews and nieces; also his Aunt Mary Ann DiMilia. There will be a Funeral Mass on Wednesday July 8, 2015 at 10AM at Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday July 6, 2015 and Tuesday July 7, 2015 from 4-8PM at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home.
