Obituary of Joseph Anastasi

It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Anastasi, son of (late) Anthony and Frances Anastasi, of Peekskill, NY. Joe was 77 when he died on April 14, 2015. Joe was raised in Peekskill and attended Peekskill Military Academy. He started with the Operating Engineers Local 137 and worked as a paid fireman in the Peekskill Fire Department. He joined the New York State Police in 1966 and served until 1989. He served as a State Trooper before he became an investigator with the (BCI), State Police Manhattan and was assigned to Troop F, G and K. Then he was promoted to Captain when he was assigned to the Security Detail of Mario Cuomo the Governor of the State of New York, in NYC and Albany, until his retirement. After his retirement from the NY State Police Joe and his wife, Louise relocated to San Diego, CA, where he worked Security for Universal Studios, and Robbery Suppression for Bank of America. In 2000 Joe and Louise moved to Henderson, NV where he worked on multiple Security Details. Joe was a kind man who was sympathetic to people’s problems and challenges, valued loyalty and friendship and will be missed by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor and one of his many talents was playing the accordion, which when he was 12 years old he appeared as a contestant on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. Joe loved the NY Jets, Yankees and Mets, Golf and Horseracing. Joe also had a small part in several movies including Casino and was a member of SAG. Joe was one of a kind and his last words would have been: “I DID IT MY WAY” He is survived by; the love of life, his wife, Louise Anastasi, of Henderson, NV. A sister, Marie Strang and brother-in-law Hick Strang, a niece, Toni Confalone, sister-in-law, Liz Hinyub, sister-in-law Jeanmarie Wong, brother-in-law, Edwin St. John and many nieces and nephews.
