Joseph C. Marallo, beloved Father and friend of many, passed away August 6, 2017 at the age of 84. A longtime resident of Mahopac he was born on November 3, 1932 in Peekskill, NY, to Carmine and Consiglia Caputi Marallo. Upon graduating from Peekskill High School in 1951, he enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and was assigned to the LST 1110 as a radioman. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
On April 7, 1953, he married the love of his life Mildred Baisley who predeceased him October 6, 2000. They had one child, a daughter, Susan Lynn.
Joe worked for the Peekskill Evening Star for many years and finished his career as a camera man with Gannett Newspapers. He also worked for the New York State Troopers Barracks in Peekskill, Hawthorne and Salt Point for over 25 years.
This gentle, kind and quiet man took joy in spending time with family and friends, wintering in Florida and traveling to the national parks. His hobbies included cooking, photography, bird watching, hiking, gardening, and yard work. He loved spending time with his daughter anytime and anywhere. He dearly loved the American flag and was very patriotic.
He was a Past Master Mason of the Collarbergh Radium Lodge #859 and member of the Church of the Holy Communion.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Susan Lynn and Robert Vorce, his many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is predeceased by 8 siblings and his wife.
Burial will be held at the Sunset Cemetery in Montrose, New York, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Dad, we all miss you and you have left an empty space in the many lives that you touched. We miss you being around and sharing time with you. You were a good man, lived a good life, shared with others and always gave it your best . I thank you for all you did for me and for so many others. For that we were all blessed to have had you in our lives for so many years. Good job with your life and God Bless.
