Obituary of Dorothy R. Teets
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy R. (Conklin) Teets of Peekskill, NY passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the age of 88. Daughter to Clarence and Lillian (Harbolic) Conklin, she lived in Peekskill most of her life, raising four children as a single mother. While working at the St. Mary’s Episcopal School as a housekeeper during the day she put herself through college at night, eventually earning her LPN and RN degrees. She went to work at the VA Hospital in Montrose for close to 30 years with veterans in the psychiatric ward who had suffered from what we know today to be Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dorothy was an energetic and outgoing woman, who was never one to sit still. She was always on the move. Lovingly nicknamed “booges” by her family, she loved to dance and could walk from one end of Peekskill to the next without missing a beat. She was an active member of the Peekskill Democratic City Committee where she developed amazing friends and an extended family, and worked tirelessly to elect local candidates she believed in. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Conklin, her father Clarence Conklin, her mother Lillian (Harbolic) Conklin, and her granddaughter Rebecca Ellen Teets. She leaves behind four children, Clifford, Joann (Fidgeon), Alvin, and Kevin as well as 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and an indomitable spirit that will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Peekskill or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Visitation will be held at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home 414 Washington Street, Peekskill NY on Friday, March 23rd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Celebration of life ceremony will be held at the St. Peters Episcopal Church of Peekskill on Saturday, March 24th at 11:30am.
