Walter Joseph Bittal, Sr. of Peekskill, Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 25th. He was 95 years of age
Walter was born July 14th, 1922 in Peekskill, NY to Isabell and Joseph Bitil. He went on to proudly serve his country during World War II, where he was awarded various medals, including the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He went on to marry his loving spouse of 67 years, Margaret at the Church of the Assumption on November 23, 1950.
He spent much of his free time pursuing his passion playing golf. He was an avid member of the Knights of Columbus, the Peekskill Fire Dept. Washington Engine, and also served as an usher in the Church of the Assumption.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Bittal, his four Children, Walter Bittal, Jr., Mary Ann Rodak-Friedman, Christina (Paul) Tallerico, Theresa Bittal Tompkins (Edward Dunleavy, who we all love and thank for being a great friend and golf buddy). His five Grandsons Paul, Christopher, and David Tallerico, Walter Bittal, III and Jason Tompkins, One granddaughter Jessica Bittal Winter. Five great Grandchildren Mark and Josh Tallerico, Jason and Robert Winter, and Christina Theresa Tompkins. His three niece’s Isabel, Margaret, and Kim, and his sister in law Marilyn Dvozenja.
He is predeceased by his brother Joseph Bilil, John Dvozenja, Sister Helen Kazmirowski, and his grandson Dalton R. Tompkins
His family will be receiving friends at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, 10:00am at the Church of the Assumption, Interment to follow at the Assumption Cemetery
Walter was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and a great friend and gentleman who will be sorely missed by all who called him friend.
